Course Descriptions

Bible Overview . Practical, 1 Credit

A course designed to give a broad picture of the Bible, which enables the student to visualize the word as a whole. Emphasis is on the historical flow of the scriptures.

Theology Proper . Doctrine, 1 Credit

"In the midst of the knowledge explosion of the past half century, it is astounding that many have forgotten that the greatest knowledge they could possess is the knowledge of God. The fact that we have sent men to the moon is not as amazing as sending men to heaven. The knowledge of God is certainly top priority." (Charles Ryrie in, A Survey of Bible Doctrine, pg. 11). This course concentrates all efforts on seeing God as He is and the impact that this understanding can have on the Christian life.

Wilderness Backpacking . Practical, 1 Credit

In the early fall you will experience a challenging but exciting week back packing. You will be seeing the sights of the Bob Marshall Wilderness which is the largest wilderness area in the continental US, which also happens to be our backyard! This course will also give the student a new awareness of the environment from a Biblical viewpoint.

Church History . Practical, 1 Credit

This course will offer an overview of the two thousand years of church history, from its earliest days to the present. Special attention will be given to theological and denominational development, as well as a study of the lives of many of history's religious leaders. The goal is for the student to come to an understanding that history is more than memorized facts, but that it is affecting them even today.

Cults Overview . Ministry, 1 Credit

With the tremendous increase in our day of Cults and Isms, this course helps the student understand the basic variances they have with the Word. A goal of the course will be to expose the smoke screen of secondary issues and focus sharply on the Person and work of Jesus Christ.

Hermeneutics . Practical, 2 Credits

An introduction to the Spirit-guided art of biblical observation, interpretation and application. Attention will be given to the principle and process of understanding the textual meaning of the Word as well as applying the significant meanings to the Christian life. This course will be taught in two one week sessions.

Pentateuch Study . Bible, 1 Credit

This class will study the theology, content and unity of the first five books of the Old Testament. Various readings and discussion will introduce the student to various critical approaches to the origin and development of the Pentateuch and to the ways it continues to guide and shape God's people today.

Historical Books . Bible, 1 Credit

This course will give the student a detailed overview of all the historical Old Testament books with a focus on the main characters and events contained within. Also, one of the books will receive special attention.

Wisdom Books . Bible, 1 Credit

This study of Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and The Song of Solomon leads students through poetry and prose unrivaled in all secular literature. The Wisdom Books are beautiful Holy Spirit-inspired literature, containing narrative, history, instruction, celebration, prayer, passion, prophecy, and more unfolding of the drama of divine redemption, looking toward it's ultimate fulfillment in the atoning of Jesus Christ.

Old Testament Prophets . Bible, 1 Credit

A look at the role and significance of Old Testament prophets as emphasized in light of biblical history. This overview includes a focus on select prophets and prophetic oracles.

Lifestyle Evangelism . Ministry, 1 Credit

Students will learn to develop a clear testimony that will help them to share the message of salvation. They will also learn an evangelism tool to present the gospel to friends and acquaintances.

Power of Prayer . Ministry, 1 Credit

Every Christian knows that we should be spending quality time in prayer, and that it brings about powerful results. This course will look at the impact of prayer in the lives of many Biblical characters and more recent men and women of God. We will spend several sessions in prayer and will have a day of fasting.

Philippians . Bible, 1 Credit

Even when the world encroaches upon us and we go through suffering we can find encouragement and joy in the Christian life. The study of this book will help the student to see that we can rejoice in the Lord and His faithfulness to us at all times.

Romans . Bible, 1 Credit

Providing an in-depth analysis of the first eight chapters of the Apostle Paul's epistle to the church at Rome , the student will develop a deeper understanding of many essential doctrines. They will be challenged to seek practical application of biblical insights to his/her personal walk with God and ministry.

Gospel of Luke . Bible, 1 Credit

In this course we will survey the life of Jesus Christ as depicted in the gospel of Luke. In addition to a cursory exposition of the text, the biblical and theological backdrop to the gospel account is highlighted.

Godly Relationships . Practical, 1 Credit

This course is offered that students might learn to make God-honoring decisions regarding relationships and in preparation for marriage. Students will be challenged to set parameters on relationships within the context of the Christian life.

Gospel of John . Bible 1 Credit

Attention will be given to the person of Jesus Christ, His deity, His signs, His discourses, and His interaction with various people throughout the Gospel. Every effort will be made to make this a personal encounter with Christ, not solely an intellectual, academic endeavor.

Equipping for Warfare . Practical, 1 Credit

This course will look at the issue of spiritual warfare. The areas of study will include angels, Satan, and demonology. Attention will be given to exposing the lies of the enemy, and developing a strategy to deal with Satan's attacks and temptations and recognizing the victorious life of Jesus Christ in both the eternal dimension and practical living.

Biblical Financial Principles . Practical, 1 Credit

A Biblical basis will be used with methods and procedures to help students in the areas of financial management. Areas covered will include Scriptural giving, budgets, savings/investments, insurance, credit, buying a home/renting.

Apologetics . Practical, 1 Credit

As a Christian the defense of our faith is our responsibility. As we learn to defend the faith we see that it is a confirmation to believers and conviction to non-believers. Subjects include authority, miracles, evil and evolution.

"Acts" & the Church . Bible, 1 Credit

This class on ecclesiology will take a look back at the New Testament Church and the foundations of Christianity so that we can learn how to live and function in the Church today. Discussions will contrast God's view of the role and relationship of the church against those ideas contrived by man. Emphasis will be on backgrounds of denominations today and present teachings.

Biblical Worship . Practical, 1 Credit

This course will equip the student to identify biblical examples of worship. It will give the student evaluation tools to enhance and lead worship of the church. The course will also equip students with positive approaches to personal worship.

Scientific Creationism . Practical, 1 Credit

In our world, many teach evolution as truth although many leading scientists are now saying that there must be a designer behind all we know and observe. This course will teach a Biblical view of creation and show that it will stand up to science as long as we are careful to separate that which is fact from that which is theory.

2nd Timothy . Bible, 1 Credit

This course concentrates on the themes of persecution from outside the church and false teaching within. It is Paul's final exhortation to a young minister to focus on the Scriptures and the sound teaching to be found in them.

1st Corinthians . Bible, 1 Credit

This course deals with practical problems in interpersonal relationships and within the area of the local church. Subjects covered will include; Christian liberty, marriage, discipline, gifts of the Spirit, and Christian love and forgiveness.

Revelation of Jesus Christ . Bible, 1 Credit

This class on eschatology considers the doctrines of the last times, examining particularly prophecies concerning the second coming and events surrounding it both before and after.

Taking Men Alive . Practical, 1 Credit

Positioned at the end of the school year, this course seeks to bring together all the courses that have been taught with a final challenge to action. The student will be encouraged to gain an eternal perspective about the people that come into their lives and be prepared to share with individuals the message of what Jesus has done for them and what He can do for others.
